I imagine that she smells like shampoo and dryer sheets.
I’ve never seen her, but always wonder about the length of her hair.
Is she like me?
Does she try to make every person in the room feel like they’re the only person in the room? Does she laugh at eggs when they are sunny side up.
Does she dance when all hope is lost and there is nothing else to do?
I am pale.
I can’t seem to catch a tan because I am constantly bathing in her shadow.
I stunt for miles to win the approval of his smile. I tug at my limbs daily just to make him see me.
I nurture the ground he walks on with my tears.
And occasionally he glances and at that faint glance I am fulfilled.
No one will love him the way I have for so long.
Not even the girl with the dryer sheet hair.
And still…he doesn’t care.
If only I were a robot, or a plant, or a doll, or a man….then I wouldn’t care so much either.
